This page is dedicated to the FSK/digital interface

I used W3YY's optically isolated FSK board, built as a kit, you can also buy it wired.

go to my WinWarbler page for setup

I added a USB port to the board, the old rs-232 interface is way too old a technology. I decided to use a USB B port because it is larger and less likely to break. I found PC board on the eBay from a Chinese dealer and the USB type B connector also on eBay. Each were in quantities of 10, the connectors were $1.23 and the boards were $5.99, both with free shipping. Quite often these links die but they can be found again, email me if you can't find them.

The USB interface board I took out of an old USB to serial cable that was FTDI compatible. Be sure to FTDI type USB cables, they are 100% compatible with Windows from XP to 10 and also Linux. This board is similar to the breakout boards on eBay and elsewhere. There are 2 types, one type has the rs-232 interface chip while the other is just the digital TTL out. I am working on a design the will eliminate the rs-232 on the interface but for now this works. The above board is one example of the USB interface board. I found that if the Interface and breakout are oriented correctly that the pins match up and solder together in a neat package, see the first images. I also super glued the USB connector to the board so I could route the wires correctly. I used the ferrite beads provided, now it is ready for a metal case.

The metal case above was one I had laying around and seemed perfect for my application. I cut the opening for the USB and the DIN 8 connector and mounted the board to the case.

The USB opening is a little ragged but I will fill it with epoxy and paint it. The DIN 8 had a bezel to hide my sins oh that side. In my case I followed the wiring used on on the 7600 ACC1 but this is a universal interface that can use any custom cable you make with a DIN 8 interface. I connected the AF out but do not use it. The 7600's USB output on the back has audio as well and the computer program can use the CODEC it implements.

This is the final product. The DIN 8 plugs into ACC1 on the 7600 and the phone jack plus into the Key on the back. I have the 7600 PDF from W3YY's web site, he has the wiring interface for many of the radios on his site.

I have included the USB pinout diagram and the standard din connector types.

I am working on a breadboard version of an all inclusive board not much bigger than the W3yy board. I am using breakout FTDI board and connector to simplify the bread boarding. I will eventually finalize it with my Eagle cad program.
