I have converted a Western Union Telex machine into a vanilla Teletype ASR-33 with a 20 ma current loop. I could not have accomplished this without the help of Wayne, KB1FDW. He supplied the missing parts and the UCC-6 power supply needed along with a relay, cover and critical screws needed. His advice was priceless and and thank him for his effort. Wayne can be reached at teletypeparts@aol.com.

This page will show the different things I did to restore my unit. I had some work to do on a case that had numerous cracks in it. Many of the photos have info about what I used for the repairs.

Printer serial number is 433901
Keyboard serial number is 102293
UCC6 serial number is 159428

Front of Teletype. The connector laying in the UCC-6 power supply plugs into the reader power supply.

The back base is were the reader power supply fits.

The reader power supply.

A close-up of the connectors. Plug #3 must have the jumper installed when adding a UCC-6 to a TELEX unit.

There is a black metal clip that must replace the answer back relay arm once it has been removed. It is just to the left of the reader relay.

The back of the unit after I lubricated it with white lithium lube. I purchased a tube of it from Home depot.

I used Tuffglas fiberglass tape to reenforce the inside of the case. It is 3" wide and thin and I used 5 min epoxy to bind it to the case.

This was the front crack behind the front plate. I used suoer glue to initially bind the 2 pieces then epoxy and fiberglass tape.

More repair in the tape punch area.

I filled the hole in the case with epoxy and fiberglass tape.

The lid spring support needed a lot of work.

The case had a major hairline crack that needed attention.

Cover over plugs, not needed but I had it so I put it on.

I managed to break off the reader switch lever. Fixed it with super glue, epoxy and fiberglass tape.

Finished unit front.

And finally the back.
